# A New Way To Conduct Tank Telemetry For A Top Ten E&P Company

## The Challenge

A top ten energy exploration and production company in Texas needed an efficient way to conduct tank telemetry for above-ground storage tanks. In Early 2018, they relied on manual tank gauging and guided-wave sensors to measure the contents within their oil and water tanks. As their assets expanded due to acquisitions, they needed a way to efficiently conduct tank telemetry for their newly acquired wellsites with well over one thousand storage tanks needing tank telemetry.

## The Solution

Andium thought of a cost-effective way to conduct tank telemetry that has not been used in the past. Instead of relying on sensors placed inside of each above-ground storage tank or manual gauging, Andium developed a non-intrusive device that could measure the oil, water, and emulsion layers within multiple wellsite storage tanks per device. The device was called Andium Tank Telemetry. These devices were linked to the Andium OS, which enabled them to securely send data to the cloud and be displayed on a dashboarding system where stakeholders can remotely monitor and manage their wellsites. Andium Tank Telemetry not only allows users to receive real-time data, but users can also see live images of their tank levels to ensure they are getting the correct information from haulers and field operators.

Old Ways:

Opening Tank Hatches

When these hatches are opened, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and harmful gases escape into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Exposure to the hazardous substances poses serious health risks to workers. Potential mishandling of the hatch can also lead to spills.

Operational Visibility

Insight

Oil, water, and emulsion levels are visible across all customer tanks.

Use Case:

Tank Full

Production levels of water and oil can be visually validated without manual tank gauging.

Use Case:

Collection

Tank levels data can be synced with hauling services for timely collections and efficient running of sites.

Use Case:

Parafin

Parafin in tanks is visibble too.

## The Result

With the new automated solution in place, the top ten energy exploration and production company was able to efficiently monitor hundreds of wellsites in real-time. Not only were they efficiently conducting tank telemetry for over one thousand storage tanks at a time, they’ve also saved millions of dollars annually across their supply chain through effective fluid management and still utilize this technology today.
